Off we go!

Hello all and welcome to my blog! So glad you could make it.

Katie and I are sitting in her parent's house right now with everything packed and zipped ready to go.  I'm sure we will forget something we need, but that's okay.  Our flight leaves at 7 a.m. Monday morning and we will arrive in Guatemala around 3 p.m. Chicago time.

In case anybody does not know, I will explain briefly why I am going to Atnigua, Guatemala for my final semester as an undergraduate.  As a student in the social work program at Spring Arbor University (SAU), I am required to complete a 10-credit hour unpaid internship before I graduate.  While in Antigua, I will be completing this internship through the God's Child Project.  On May 9th, 2013 I will return from Guatemala and graduate two days later with a Bachelors in Social Work.

I am very excited to reveal what this internship means for my future career path.  For the last four years I have found an interest in international social work, especially after my 3-week study abroad trip to Cambodia in January, 2012.  This experience will hopefully help me find my place in the field of international social work and what my strengths will be.

One of the most important factors in studying abroad is how much the trip is going to cost, and many students choose not to because of this.  In order to help out with my expenses, I was awarded the Gilman International Scholarship which funds students wanting to study abroad.  If you or anyone you know could benefit from this scholarship as well, please follow this link.
